Gym Rack Assembly Basics

Assemble a gym rack by following a series of steps and complete them in order without any delay.

Read the Manual and Lay Out All Parts

I have assumed that you will read the manual from start to finish before attempting to assemble the rack. If not, make sure to read the parts list for the rack and lay out all of the parts on the floor before attempting to bolt anything together. It is far easier to check for a missing bolt before attempting to assemble half of the rack.

Build Base and Uprights First

The frame of the gym rack should be assembled starting with the base, then the uprights, then the cross members, and finally any additional attachments for the gym rack.

Hand-Tighten All Bolts Before Torquing

Tighten the bolts in all joints by hand first. After you have assembled the entire rack, return to all joints and tighten the bolts in the specified torque using a torque wrench.

Check Uprights Are Plumb

Use a spirit level to check the uprights are plumb before you start to torque up the bolts. It’s worthwhile checking them all the time as a rack that leans even a little can put uneven stress on the joints of the rack over time.

Anchor the Rack to the Floor or Wall

Typically the anchoring point is located at the lowest point of the rack, either on the floor or on a wall. It must be fixed in using the supplied bolts and screwed up to the recommended torque setting.

Test Stability Before Loading

The assembled rack should not move when pressed in any direction.
