It might be raining but at some point, we all hope to have a summer worthy of spending time in our gardens. If your garden is looking a bit forlorn and neglected form winter, here are some ways you can breathe fresh life into your outside space:
- Some garden lights
Lighter nights mean making more of our garden spaces and that shouldn’t end when dusk falls. Treat your garden to some ambient, cosy lighting such as solar lights which are energy-saving and come in a wide range of styles and colours. If you have a gazebo, why not consider stringing fairy lights across the top or in between some trees for a pretty night-time look. Jam jars or glass vases with tea lights or candles are another inexpensive way to create a magical atmosphere in which to enjoy your garden long after the sun has gone down.
- Chimineas
It is fashionable to have one of these free-standing clay fires with their distinctive appearance of wide body and slim tall chimney. They look authentic and gorgeous, providing warmth to garden spaces for the enjoyment of all, meaning there’s no need to go inside when the evening gets a little cool.
- Tidy the garden
The easiest and cheapest way to make a positive difference to your garden is to take some time to tidy it up. Pick up any rubbish left lying around, garden waste, old toys or broken tools etc. Tidy everything away into the shed or garage and suddenly your garden will feel a whole lot more habitable.
- Smarten up the vegetation
Any wayward bushes or shrubs could do with a trim and tidy up. Why not get busy with the shears and try your hand at a bit of topiary? If you have any trees or plants that are becoming a nuisance or need to serious tidying up, contact a Tree Surgeon Bournemouth like Kieran Boyland Treecare Ltd.
- Hide anything that’s ugly
There are things in all gardens that don’t look great, like dustbins, compost bins, tools and run-down sheds, for example. If you have anything you can’t move but think is unsightly, consider trying to disguise it with some tall plants that are preferably evergreen.
- Water
Nothing is more calming and relaxing than a feature that includes water. It needn’t be anything extravagant or pricey like a waterfall or huge pond, a simple bird bath or small pond will create a lovely ambience and the wildlife will thank you for it too.
7.A lick of paint
You’d be amazed at how much an improvement a fresh coat of paint can bring to a garden. When fences, gates and sheds are peeling or faded, it makes the whole garden look tired. It’s a straightforward task to go over a shed or fence with a roller and some fresh paint and it will make a massive difference to the look and feel of your garden area.
