How to keep dust out of your closet

There are many advantages to a walk-in closet without doors, such as easily being able to see and reach all your clothes, but this also means it is easier for dust to collect. If you want to minimise time spent cleaning, there are a few things you could try to protect your favourite items.

Humidifiers

Humidity impacts dust mites. Increased humidity may cause dust to drop to the floor rather than attaching to clothes. Do not increase the humidity too much, however, as this could lead to the development of mildew.

Antistatic carpet

Antistatic carpets do not just ground you in the case of electrical discharge and provide a soft and comfortable surface underfoot. They also have dustproofing capabilities when installed in a closet.

Curtains

Curtains are a compromise that still allow easy access without blocking entry in the way you would find with a full door. Gauze, cotton or velvet could all be suitable materials, hanging from a ceiling track.

Drawers

Smaller drawers can be used to store less worn or out of season clothes so they won’t become dusty, leaving only your most frequent choices on display and minimising the places where dust can gather.

Doors

Bespoke wardrobe doors such as those at happy-doors.co.uk/shop/products/bedrooms can slide or swing. Add some transparent or even frosted glass and you will still have the ability to see into the space.

Using one or a combination of these tips should help protect your clothes from dust so you can continue to enjoy the benefits of your walk-in closet.
