Habits are easy to fall into and hard to break. We all have them – routines we follow and things we like to do regularly. Come the weekend, it’s very likely a lot of us out there will do the same thing we did the weekend before. There’s nothing wrong with this; we should all spend time doing things we enjoy, but – sometimes – it’s good to mix things up a little bit too and step outside our comfort zone. Here are six reasons why.
1. Personal development
Stepping outside your comfort zone often means doing something you aren’t familiar or comfortable with. When you do, you learn something about yourself – even if it’s that you didn’t enjoy a particular activity – meaning you grow as a person.
2. Achieving more
We often don’t step outside our comfort zone because we believe that things are too difficult or not worth the effort. Once we do try something new, it can create a desire to try more new things, building momentum and opening up whole new adventures.
3. Being unafraid
Fear is another reason you don’t step outside your comfort zone. You might be afraid of getting hurt or of failing. Overcoming fear is wonderfully liberating and does wonders for your self-confidence, allowing you to take on new challenges.
When we step outside our comfort zone, especially if we do something that we’ve been afraid to do before, we get a sense of self-fulfilment, of having achieved something amazing.
5. Fulfilling dreams
Many of us have things we have always wanted to do but haven’t because they were outside our comfort zone. By taking that step outside, you can fulfil your dreams and do things you have always thought would be fun or exciting.
6. Finding new interests
Stepping outside your comfort zone means trying something new. It might be something you have never thought of before – tank driving, for example, offered by companies such as armourgeddon.co.uk/tank-driving-experience.html, which then becomes something that your life doesn’t feel complete without.
You are never too young or old to try something new, something that can enrich your life, help you meet new people or learn a new skill. All you have to do is step out of that comfort zone!
